Malagueña

Three years ago, I studied both Spanish language and Singing at the same time, so eventually I used to visit the library at Instituto Cervantes for some music and I developped a crush on Plácido Domingo. He's a tenor (and one of the Three Tenors, and my favourite too!)

This song I'm sharing here is my favourite from his album "Entre Dos Mundos" (Between two worlds). Malagueña means a Spanish woman from Málaga in Spain, you can find the lyrics here, it's in Spanish and it's mostly a love song where he says he's dying from pain because he loves her and that he prefers to die rather than live without her love (that's mostly what there is).

What made me love the song actually was that I've been looking for it's music for so long after I saw Lorkiana Ballet and I couldn't find it anywhere. This is what Wikipedia says about it.  And, there it is.. Malagueña de ojos negros .. Malagueña with black eyes.. Malagueña de mis sueños.. Malagueña of my dreams :))

Just like us.. she’s normal

statue

She's not fat, she's not thin, she doesn't have fabulous abs.. she's not a model and she's beautiful just like that!

Statue by Abdel Badie Abdel Hay ( 1916-2004), an artist who never studied art. A retrospective exhibition of some of his works is now held at Gezira art center, for how long.. I don't know, go now!

Weeping

A song I like by Josh Groban (Thank you Delingo who gave me this CD)

Weeping- Josh Groban feat. Ladysmith Black Mambazo

I knew a man who lived in fear
It was huge, it was angry,
It was drawing near.
Behind his house a secret place
Was the shadow of the demon
He could never face.

He built a wall of steel and flame
And men with guns to keep it tame
Then standing back he made it plain
That the nightmare would never ever rise again
But the fear and the fire and the guns remain.

It doesn't matter now it's over anyhow
He tells the world that it's sleeping
But as the night came 'round
I heard its lonely sound
It wasn't roaring, it was weeping
It wasn't roaring, it was weeping.

And then one day, the neighbours came
They were curious to know about the smoke and flame
They stood around outside the wall                                                                                                     But of course there was nothing to be heard at all

"My friends," he said, "We've reached our goal
The threat is under firm control
As long as peace and order reign
I'll be damned if I can see a reason to explain
Why the fear and the fire and the guns remain."

It doesn't matter now it's over anyhow
He tells the world that it's sleeping
But as the night came 'round
I heard its lonely sound
It wasn't roaring, it was weeping
It wasn't roaring, it was weeping.

Say ah, say ah, say ah
Say ah, say ah, say ah

Be cool!

It's World Environment Day! So what can we do to reduce Global Warming ?? It's like mother nature is sending us a message today that it's 40 degrees outside!

We can donate one pound as Set Na3ama says the minister suggests.. I would suggest you visit this website (via Jetset) that tells you how to lower both the consumption and the emission of energy.. so if we use little we will little, it's easy stuff for everyday.. check them out.

global cool

You can also become vegetarian because according to Readers Digest's June issue quoting Jay Leno :“Here’s something interesting. According to a new report by the United Nations, livestock are more responsible for global warming than all the cars in the world combined. They say the methane gas from cows has 20 times more global warming than carbon dioxide. That’s why, my next cow is going to be a hybrid.”

On another note.. we can recycle daily, if we decrease photocopying, we use both sides of paper, carry a folded shopping bag, reuse the plastic bags.. The small changes are endless, think of something!

These sweet people in Upper Egypt finally found one good use for the election banners ;)
