I guess most of the Egyptian blogs I surf are very politically oriented.. I am just so dumb when it comes to politics.. I don't get it, I can't distinguish who's right and who's wrong... I can't take a side and I assume everyone is lying to look good.
Guys, I live in a different world and when I read other blogs, I feel really silly. I really prefer to write about the sky, the metro, the kindness or the stupidity of ordinary people, my career crisis, my favourite music.. stuff like that..
So, since I don't really like to "efti" about things I don't understand much, i'll just stick to writing about my own little world (which is cute by the way!) and I'll keep reading your blogs to cultivate myself..
So.. please put up with my world .. I might surprise you with really stupid posts (Compared to all the patriotic stuff elsewhere)

There is nothing silly about this. We should be all writing about our own little lives, but unfortunately politics sometimes interfere with those peaceful lives. That's when we vent our anger, and sometimes express our oppressed opinions, on the thin pages of our blogs. But you are right, sometimes we overdo it.

I don't want to appear that I am against politics or people who write about politics, but you know what I don't enjoy it at all. To me it seems to be more of a bunch of people who have opposite opinions and each side is trying to prove the other is wrong and the funny is you never get to know who is right and who is wrong. All what happens is you get more confused and the more you listen the more you start to feel how ugly life is. Have you ever thought of reading one piece of news from different opposite sources?! You will be amazed of how much difference there is in the story to the extent, there is nothing really common between both sides. Same as people condemning other religions. I know, to lots, I probably seem ignorant or naive. Well may be I am but I seriously don't believe that what we are missing in our lives, to find that inward peace, is to have more of anger enveloped conversations of either politics or religion.
And I do agree with you, I like to write about an old woman walking in the street with her grocery or a young girl with her new toy, or about an interesting experience in my life than anything else!!!

well being almost a 'politics' literate doesn't necessarily mean you're silly! There're Egy blogs which refrain from politics, not because of their 'ignorance', but because of their belief in a broader POV. I guess my own blog refrains, to some extent, from being a political 'platform'. The blogs I chose to read are of the same class. You may visit tagreba.tk or chaosgnosis.blogspot.com just to know that Egy bloggers are not solely political!

Well, I do not think you are silly either, it is just a matter of personal preference, political illiteracy or you can call it anything you want. In fact, yesterday I was up on the Internet with a friend (each one of us on his own Lap Top), he was working on some stuff that are related to his PhD dissertation to save his career, he thinks that getting the PhD is the only way to save his already red flagging career life. I was reading Egyptian political blogs, so, it all depends. He was willing to bet me that no one reads these political blogs and no one cares for it. I think he is right and wrong at the same time, some people read it, some do not, and that is just it.
I was never interested in reading about Egyptian politics (because we hardly had any politics), but now there is some motions and the still water has started to show some action, I think Egypt needs political reform if it is ever to develop.

The Gweilo
P.S. You know something, when you said "Efty" in your post, I kinda liked it so much, I have been away from Egypt for so many years, and I think I have missed the sound of slang, street like, young people's language in Cairo.
